Docs Worth Reading.
Editorial documentation for Lumen AI — written by the engineers who built it. Every example runs. Every API is type-checked. Every guide is dated.

Quickstart.
Install the CLI, open your first project, and ship a change in under five minutes. This guide assumes a recent macOS or Linux machine and a Node 20+ runtime you don't need it for Lumen itself, but most starter templates do.
Install the CLI
The Lumen CLI is a single 14 MB binary. Install it with the official one-line script it adds itself to your PATH and pins to the latest stable release.
Verify the install:
src/api/handlers.ts
$ forge --version
forge 2.4.1 (build 8f3c2b · 2026-05-12)
Verify the install:
Your first project
Start from a template, or run forge init inside an existing repo. The starter ships with a sensible forge.config.ts, sample agents, and a basic edge deployment configured.
Anatomy of a Lumen project
forge.config.ts
Build, deploy, and agent policy in one type-safe file.
/agents
Custom agents your team writes JavaScript or TypeScript.
/migrations
Database migrations, picked up automatically by deploy.
.forge/
Local cache and indexed embeddings. Add to .gitignore.
Ship your first change
Open the project in the Lumen editor, edit any file, then deploy with ⌘⇧D. Your change goes to a preview URL behind a canary; promote to production when the metrics look good.
