oftware Should Feel
Like Thinking Out Loud.
Compiler internals, postmortems, design decisions, hiring writeups. Long reads, no listicles, dated honestly. Updated whenever someone has something worth saying.

The tools are slower than the thoughts.
Most engineering tools were designed before AI was useful — back when you needed a separate window for every concern. The result is fifteen tabs, three terminals, two Slack threads, and a developer who spends a third of the day context-switching instead of building.
We think the next generation of tools collapses the loop. Editor, terminal, build, deploy, review, ops one surface, one mental model, one keyboard shortcut to anywhere. Lumen is that thesis, finished.
Our bet: in five years, the question "what IDE do you use" will sound as quaint as "what FTP client do you use."

Compiler nerds. Type-theory enthusiasts. One former cellist.
A snapshot. Thirty-two of us, distributed across SF, Berlin, and Dhaka. We hire for craft, taste, and a refusal to ship lukewarm work.
